Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to his life?  Since you cannot do this very little thing, why do you worry about the rest?

Jude 24-25

2 Corinthians 12:9 (NASB)

And He has said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for power is perfected in weakness.”  Most gladly, therefore, I will rather boast about my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may dwell in me.

NLT:  Each time he said, “My grace is all you need.  My power works best in weakness.”  So now I am glad to boast about my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ can work through me.

Hebrews 12:28-29

Therefore, since we are receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken, let us be thankful, and so worship God acceptably with reverence and awe, for our “God is a consuming fire.”

NLT:  Since we are receiving a Kingdom that is unshakable, let us be thankful and please God by worshiping him with holy fear and awe.  For our God is a devouring fire.

NLT:  The heavens proclaim the glory of God.  The skies display his craftsmanship.

Lamentations 3:22-26

Because of the Lord’s great love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail.  They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.  I say to myself, “The Lord is my portion; therefore I will wait for him.”  The Lord is good to those whose hope is in him, to the one who seeks him; it is good to wait quietly for the salvation of the Lord.

NLT:  The faithful love of the Lord never ends!  His mercies never cease.  Great is his faithfulness; his mercies begin afresh each morning.  I say to myself, “The Lord is my inheritance; therefore, I will hope in him!”  The Lord is good to those who depend on him, to those who search for him.  So it is good to wait quietly for salvation from the Lord.

Proverbs 16:9

In his heart a man plans his course, but the Lord determines his steps.

NLT:  We can make our plans, but the Lord determines our steps.

Psalm 34:8

Oh, taste and see that the Lord is good; blessed is the man who trusts in Him!

NLT:  Taste and see that the Lord is good.  Oh, the joys of those who take refuge in him!

John 17:20-23

NLT:  “I am praying not only for these disciples but also for all who will ever believe in me through their message.  I pray that they will all be one, just as you and I are one—as you are in me, Father, and I am in you.  And may they be in us so that the world will believe you sent me.  I have given them the glory you gave me, so they may be one as we are one.  I am in them and you are in me.  May they experience such perfect unity that the world will know that you sent me and that you love them as much as you love me.”

Isaiah 40:29-31

He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak.  Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall; but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength.  They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.

NLT:  He gives power to the weak and strength to the powerless.  Even youths will become weak and tired, and young men will fall in exhaustion.  But those who trust in the Lord will find new strength.  They will soar high on wings like eagles.  They will run and not grow weary.  They will walk and not faint.

April 26

2 Corinthians 4:16-18

Therefore we do not lose heart.  Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day.  For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all.  So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen.  For what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.

NLT:  That is why we never give up.  Though our bodies are dying, our spirits are being renewed every day.  For our present troubles are small and won’t last very long.  Yet they produce for us a glory that vastly outweighs them and will last forever!  So we don’t look at the troubles we can see now; rather, we fix our gaze on things that cannot be seen.  For the things we see now will soon be gone, but the things we cannot see will last forever.

Psalm 89:15

Blessed are those who have learned to acclaim you, who walk in the light of your presence, O Lord.

NLT:  Happy are those who hear the joyful call to worship, for they will walk in the light of your presence, Lord.

Hebrews 12:2

Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy set before him endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.

NLT:  We do this by keeping our eyes on Jesus, the champion who initiates and perfects our faith.  Because of the joy awaiting him, he endured the cross, disregarding it’s shame.  Now he is seated in the place of honor beside God’s throne.

Psalm 102:27

But you remain the same, and your years will never end.

NLT:  But you are always the same; you will live forever.

1 John 3:19-20

This then is how we know that we belong to the truth, and how we set our hearts at rest in his presence whenever our hearts condemn us.  For God is greater than our hearts, and he knows everything.

NLT:  Our actions will show that we belong to the truth, so we will be confident when we stand before God.  Even if we feel guilty, God is greater than our feelings, and he knows everything.

Romans 8:6

The mind of sinful man is death, but the mind controlled by the Spirit is life and peace.

NLT:  So letting your sinful nature control your mind leads to death.  But letting the Spirit control your mind leads to life and peace.

NLT:  When Jesus woke up, he rebuked the wind and said to the waves, “Silence!  Be still!!”  Suddenly the wind stopped, and there was a great calm.

Deuteronomy 31:6

Be strong and courageous.  Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the Lord your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you.

NLT:  “So be strong and courageous!  Do not be afraid and do not panic before them.  For the Lord your God will personally go ahead of you.  He will neither fail you nor abandon you.”

Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea.

NLT:  I am overwhelmed with joy in the Lord my God!  For he has dressed me with the clothing of salvation and draped me in a robe of righteousness.  I am like a bridegroom in his wedding suit or a bride with her jewels.

Let your face shine on your servant; save me in your unfailing love.

NLT:  Let your favor shine on your servant.  In your unfailing love, rescue me.

Let them give thanks to the Lord for his unfailing love and his wonderful deeds for men.

NLT:  Let them praise the Lord for his great love and for the wonderful things he has done for them.

Exodus 16:15-16, 19

Moses said to them, “It is the bread the Lord has given you to eat.  This is what the Lord has commanded:  ‘Each one is to gather as much as he needs.’…No one is to keep any of it until morning.”

NLT:  The Israelites were puzzled when they saw it.  “What is it?” They asked each other.  They had no idea what it was.  And Moses told them, “It is the food the Lord has given you to eat.” …  Then Moses told them, “Do not keep any of it until morning.”

Philippians 4:6-7, 19

Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.  And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus…And my God will meet all your needs according to his glorious riches in Christ Jesus.

NLT:  Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything.  Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done.  Then you will experience God’s peace which exceeds anything we can understand.  His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus.  … And this same God who takes care of me will supply all your needs from his glorious riches, which have been given to us in Christ Jesus.

Hebrews 4:16

Let us then approach the throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.

NLT:  From the ends of the earth, I cry to you for help when my heart is overwhelmed.  Lead me to the towering rock of safety, for you are my safe refuge, a fortress where my enemies cannot reach me.  Let me live forever in your sanctuary, safe beneath the shelter of your wings.

2 Corinthians 3:18 (NKJV)

But we all, with unveiled face, beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, and are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, just as by the Spirit of the Lord.

NLT:  So all of us who have had that veil removed can see and reflect the glory of the Lord.  And the Lord—who is the Spirit—makes us more and more like him as we are changed into his glorious image.

1 Corinthians 15:20-23

But Christ has indeed been raised from the dead, the firstfruits of those who have fallen asleep.  For since death came through a man, the resurrection of the dead comes also through a man.  For as in Adam all die, so in Christ all will be made alive.  But each in his own turn:  Christ, the firstfruits; then, when he comes, those who belong to him.

NLT:  But in fact, Christ has been raised from the dead.  He is the first of a great harvest of all who have died.  So you see, just as death came into the world through a man, now the resurrection from the dead has begun through another man.  Just as everyone dies because we all belong to Adam, everyone who belongs to Christ will be given new life.  But there is an order to this resurrection:  Christ was raised as the first of the harvest; then all who belong to Christ will be raised when he comes back. 

Hebrews 6:19

We have this hope as an anchor for the soul, firm and secure.  It enters the inner sanctuary behind the curtain.

NLT:  This hope is a strong and trustworthy anchor for our souls.  It leads us through the curtain into God’s inner sanctuary.

Look to the Lord and his strength; seek his face always.

Exodus 15:22-25

Then Moses led Israel from the Red Sea and they went into the Desert of Shur.  For three days they traveled in the desert without finding water.  When they came to Marah, they could not drink its water because it was bitter.  (That is why the place is called Marah.)  So the people grumbled against Moses, saying, “What are we to drink?”  Then Moses cried out to the Lord, and the Lord showed him a piece of wood.  He threw it into the water, and the water became sweet.  There the Lord made a decree and a law for them, and there he tested them.

NLT:  Then Moses led the people of Israel away from the Red Sea, and they moved out into the desert of Shur.  They traveled in this desert for three days without finding any water.  When they came to the oasis of Marah, the water was too bitter to drink.  So they called the place Marah (which means “bitter”).  Then the people complained and turned against Moses.  “What are we going to drink?”  They demanded.  So Moses cried out to the Lord for help, and the Lord showed him a piece of wood.  Moses threw it into the water and this made the water good to drink.  It was there at Marah that the Lord set before them the following decree as a standard to test their faithfulness to him.

Psalm 31:14

But I trust in you, O Lord; I say, “You are my God.”

NLT:  But I am trusting you, O Lord, saying, “You are my God!”

Psalm 118:24

This is the day the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it.

NLT:  This is the day the Lord has made.  We will rejoice and be glad in it.

Philippians 3:13-14

Brothers, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it.  But one thing I do:  Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.

NLT:  No, dear brothers and sisters, I have not achieved it, but I focus on this one thing:  Forgetting the past and looking forward to what lies ahead.  I press on to reach the end of the race and receive the heavenly prize for which God, through Christ Jesus, is calling us.

Hebrews 3:13

But encourage one another daily, as long as it is called Today, so that none of you may be hardened by sin’s deceitfulness.

NLT:  You must warn each other every day, while it is still “today,” so that none of you will be deceived by sin and hardened against God.

Jeremiah 17:7

“But blessed is the man who trusts in the Lord, whose confidence is in him.”

NLT:  “But blessed are those who trust in the Lord and have made the Lord their hope and confidence.

NLT:  But you are not like that, for you are a chosen people.  You are royal priests, a holy nation, God’s very own possession.  As a result, you can show others the goodness of God, for he called you out of the darkness into his wonderful light.

Romans 8:38-39

For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

NLT:  And I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from God’s love.  Neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither our fears for today nor our worries about tomorrow—not even the powers of hell can separate us from God’s love.  No power in the sky above or in the earth below—indeed, nothing in all creation will ever be able to separate us from the love of God that is revealed in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Exodus 33:14

The Lord replied, “My Presence will go with you, and I will give you rest.”

NLT:  The Lord replied, “I will personally go with you, Moses, and I will give you rest—everything will be fine for you.”

“I have come as a light into the world, that whoever believes in Me should not abide in darkness.”

NLT:  “Of course we may eat fruit from the trees in the garden,” the woman replied.  “It’s only the fruit from the tree in the middle of the garden that we are not allowed to eat.  God said, ‘You must not eat it or even touch it; if you do, you will die.’”  “You won’t die!”  the serpent replied to the woman.

1 John 1:7

But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin.

NLT:  But if we are living in the light, as God is in the light, then we have fellowship with each other, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, cleanses us from all sin.

But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, so that the surpassing greatness of the power will be of God and not from ourselves.

NLT:  We now have this light shining in our hearts, but we ourselves are like fragile clay jars containing this great treasure.  This makes it clear that our great power is from God, not from ourselves.

Ephesians 3:16

I pray that out of his glorious riches he may strengthen you with power through his Spirit in your inner being.

NLT:  I pray that from his glorious, unlimited resources he will empower you with inner strength through his Spirit.

Isaiah 30:15

This is what the Sovereign Lord, the Holy One of Israel says: “In repentance and rest is your salvation, in quietness and trust is your strength, but you would have none of it.”

NLT:  This is what the Sovereign Lord, the Holy One of Israel, says:  “Only in returning to me and resting in me will you be saved.  In quietness and confidence is your strength.  But you would have none of it.”

Zechariah 2:13

“Be still before the Lord, all mankind, because he has roused himself from his holy dwelling.”

NLT:  “Be silent before the Lord, all humanity, for he is springing into action from his holy dwelling.”

2Chronicles 16:9 (NKJV)

For the eyes of the Lord run to and fro throughout the whole earth, to show Himself strong on behalf of those whose heart is loyal to Him.  In this you have done foolishly; therefore from now on you shall have wars.

NLT:  The eyes of the Lord search the whole earth in order to strengthen those whose hearts are fully committed to him.  What a fool you have been!  From now on you will be at war.

Psalm 23:2-3 (NKJV)

He makes me to lie down in green pastures; He leads me beside the still waters.  He restores my soul; He leads me in the paths of righteousness for His Name’s sake.

NLT:  He lets me rest in green meadows; he leads me beside peaceful streams.  He renews my strength.  He guides me along right paths, bringing honor to his name.

April 3

Ephesians 3:20-21

Now to him who is able to do immeasurable more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever!  Amen.

NLT:  Now all glory to God, who is able, through his mighty power at work within us, to accomplish infinitely more than we might ask or think.  Glory to him in the church and in Christ Jesus through all generations forever and ever!  Amen.

2 Corinthians 4:18 (AMP)

Since we consider and look not to the things that are seen but to the things that are unseen; for the things that are visible are temporal (brief and fleeting), but the things that are invisible are deathless and everlasting.

NLT:  So we don’t look at the troubles we can see now; rather, we fix our gaze on things that cannot be seen.  For the things we see now will soon be gone, but the things we cannot see will last forever.

Philippians 4:19

And my God will meet all your needs according to his glorious riches in Christ Jesus.

NLT:  And this same God who takes care of me will supply all your needs from his glorious riches, which have been given to us in Christ Jesus.

2 Thessalonians 3:16

Now may the Lord of peace Himself give you peace always in every way.  The Lord be with you all.

NLT:  Now may the Lord of peace himself give you his peace at all times and in every situation.  The Lord be with you all.

2 Corinthians 4:17

For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all.

NLT:  For our present troubles are small and won’t last very long. Yet they produce for us a glory that vastly outweighs them and will last forever!
