Ephesians 5:8-10

For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord.  Live as children of light (for the fruit of the light consists in all goodness, righteousness and truth) and find out what pleases the Lord.

NLT:  For once you were full of darkness, but now you have light from the Lord.  So live as people of light!  For this light within you produces only what is good and right and true.  Carefully determine what pleases the Lord.

Matthew 23:8

“But you are not to be called ‘Rabbi,’ for you have only one Master and you are all brothers.”

NLT:  “Don’t let anyone call you ‘Rabbi’, for you have only one teacher, and all of you are equal as brothers and sisters.”

Matthew 6:1

“Be careful not to do your ‘acts of righteousness’ before men, to be seen by them.  If you do, you will have no reward from your Father in heaven.”

NLT:  “Watch out!  Don’t do your good deeds publicly, to be admired by others, for you will lose the reward from your Father in heaven.”
