Exodus
15:22-25
Then Moses
led Israel from the Red Sea and they went into the Desert of Shur. For three days they traveled in the desert
without finding water. When they came to
Marah, they could not drink its water because it was bitter. (That is why the place is called Marah.) So the people grumbled against Moses, saying,
“What are we to drink?” Then Moses cried
out to the Lord, and the Lord showed him a piece of wood. He threw it into the water, and the water
became sweet. There the Lord made a
decree and a law for them, and there he tested them.
NLT: Then Moses led the people of Israel away from
the Red Sea, and they moved out into the desert of Shur. They traveled in this desert for three days
without finding any water. When they came
to the oasis of Marah, the water was too bitter to drink. So they called the place Marah (which means
“bitter”). Then the people complained
and turned against Moses. “What are we
going to drink?” They demanded. So Moses cried out to the Lord for help, and
the Lord showed him a piece of wood.
Moses threw it into the water and this made the water good to
drink. It was there at Marah that the
Lord set before them the following decree as a standard to test their
faithfulness to him.
Psalm
31:14
But I trust
in you, O Lord; I say, “You are my God.”
NLT: But I am trusting you, O Lord, saying, “You
are my God!”
