John
15:13-15
“Greater
love has no one than this, that he lay down his life for his friends. You are my friends if you do what I
command. I no longer call you servants,
because a servant does not know his master’s business. Instead I have called you friends, for
everything that I learned from my Father I have made known to you.”
NLT: There
is no greater love than to lay down one’s life for one’s friends. You are my friends if you do what I
command. I no longer call you slaves,
because a master doesn’t confide in his slaves.
Now you are my friends, since I have told you everything the Father told
me.
Isaiah
61:3
And provide
for those who grieve in Zion—to bestow on them a crown of beauty instead of
ashes, the oil of gladness instead of mourning, and a garment of praise instead
of a spirit of despair. They will be
called oaks of righteousness, a planting of the Lord for the display of his
splendor.
NLT: To all who mourn in Israel, he will give a
crown of beauty for ashes, a joyous blessing instead of mourning, festive
praise instead of despair. In their
righteousness, they will be like great oaks that the Lord has planted for his
own glory.
2
Corinthians 6:10
Sorrowful,
yet always rejoicing; poor, yet making many rich; having nothing, and yet possessing
everything.
NLT: Our hearts ache, but we always have joy. We are poor, but we give spiritual riches to
others. We own nothing, and yet we have
everything.
